Hi everybody!!
As promised, I came back, and I have lots of things to tell you guys.
To start with, I will explain in further detail about the scholarship I have for studying in Italy, and how to apply.
I wanted to do it since long time ago, finally I will write in English because all things related are in English. I hope this to be useful for those who have asked me.
First of all, the University. As you know I am studying at the Politecnico di Milano http://www.polimi.it/ , but it doesn’t mean that I study in Milano because this University has two campus inside the city but it has also campus all around Lombardy, so I belong to Polo Regionale di Como http://www.polo-como.polimi.it/
Actually, people that are holding the same scholarship as I are either studying in Como or in Lecco, in both cases Master of Science.
I haven’t seen all campuses, Como Campus consist on a few building that from outside seem to be still under constructions, the fact is that is very young campus, but personally I think is a good university, at least it uses the latest IT technologies.
Now I will introcuce what is a Master of Science (so if you already know you can skip this part and go to the scholarships one)
The EU has the intention to adopt a education system with two main cycles, that are Bachelor and Master of Science. Therefore, Bachelor is a three-year undergraduate program that can be followed by a Master of Science that is a two-year graduate program.
This 3+2 program sutis the ECTS credits system, a Bachelor degree corresponds to 180 credits and a Master of Science to 120.
Everything regardin foreigners can be found in the English version of the web http://www.polimi.it/english/
Here you will find all the information about the Scholarships for foreign students:
http://www.polimi.it/english/academics/scholarships.php?id_nav=-247
There are several types of scholarships.
Last year I applied for ICE - UNIONCAMERE PROJECT – Scholarships, and I got the one of 8 thousand euros per year for two years.
This covers all the expenses, accommodation, food, books, etc. Actually I and almost everybody I know are living in a simple way, I mean, we do not expend a lot, so the money we have is enough (of course is much better for those who got 10 thousand euros).
ICE Scholarships is for those who apply for Como and Lecco campus and mainly for Master of Science that are taught in English.
As you can see, it is not so bad to be paid for studying. Somehow you have more pressure because, at least in my case, I would like to demonstrate with results that I deserved the Scholarship and they did well.
So, how to apply, they explain everything the web http://www.polimi.it/english/academics/how_to_apply/eu/EUcitizens_graduate.php?id_nav=-259
Aplication procedure
http://www.polimi.it/cms/file/-259/Online_application-procedure_2006.pdf
I am noticing that this year is everything much more clear, last year I can tell it was a really mess, as it was the first year. But I realize that now they may are more strict, there is even a list of the minimum academic performance for each country.
When can you do it? … right now, that is what Polimi says:
Remember that the earlier you send in your application and material, the better the possibility of having an early response regarding admission. Furthermore, keep in mind that applications received after April 28, 2006 will not be considered for international student scholarships and admissions decisions will most probably not be communicated until October. Again, incomplete documentation and/or applications will NOT be considered, so please pay close attention to the checklist furnished below.
I will write a second post if somebody wants to know further details, some recommendations, curiosities, whatever.
I hope to welcome you next year in Italy!!! So, good luck for those who decide to apply!!!

Vaya justo esto me lo has contado hoy, pero jue… 8mil euros! que pedazo de beca quien la pillase! jeje

Hi! I found your blog accidentally. I’m now applying for Politecnico di Milano but I choose TIME program because Politecnico di Milano and our university have a bilateral agreement and after two years of study I will receive double diploma.
If they take me I will be enrolled in Engineering study courses at the level of Laurea Specialistica . And I want to ask you - do Laurea Specialistica and Laurea Magistrale mean the same? Do you know somebody who is studying under program TIME now? I have a real problem with motivation letter because I don’t know English well. Do they pay as much attention on motivation as they wrote on the site?
Sorry for so many guestions:)
With greetings from Russia!:)

Hi ! I think that Laurea Specialistica and Laurea Magistrale are two names for the same. So far I don’t know anybody following your program, well, I am in Como Campus, but in Milano probably there will be. I would tell you not to worry about English, although, are you going to study in English or in Italian? In my case, the first months I was learning English at the same time that learning Management Engineering, and now I feel more comfortable with English than at the beginning. Anyway, try to do the motivation letter as good as possible, you can always ask for help with the English if necessary. You never know, it could be decisive !
Don’t hesitate and ask me whatever you want Anna.
Greetings to Russia!

Barb, I am sorry to trouble you. But I have one guestion. Did yoo send for the scholarship some documents stating your family income?
Comment por Anna — April 18, 2006 @ 15:14 pm
Anna
It is not trouble at all
In my case I didn’t have to send anything regarding familiar income. The ICE scolarship are granted based on academic results mainly.
Good luck!

Hello again!:-)
My exchange program covers only accomodation, so I have to pay other expenses myself.
Could you tell me please how much money do you spend every month on food books etc? Is life in Como expensive or not?
Comment por Anna — April 28, 2006 @ 8:37 am
Anna
hello and sorry for my late reply.I cannot really tell the amount of money, because it is very variable. At first you will have to spend money in a lot of little thing until you are totally installed (for example i had to buy a lot of things for the house, because it just had some furniture, nothing else…) Then, it also depends on what you do, if you travel, if you go out, or you just stay at home and study
I would say you that the most expensive thing is the accomodation, rents are really expensive, so the main expense that you will have is covered.
In general, Como life is expensive, is a place where people is quite wealthy. Regarding food, in general is not cheap but some cheap and quite good products can be found at a good price.

I have got admission at Polimi for MSc in Project Management. I am wondering if a budget of 1000 Euros is sufficient for me and my wife?
Comment por Sonu — June 11, 2006 @ 9:09 am
Sonu
Congratulations for your admission! I guess you will study in Milano (Bovisa or Leonardo), won’t you?
1000 € per month should be enough, despite a room rent in a shared appartment can be fairly 400 €, but it should be possible to get something good at a reasonable price. If you are in Milano, you have to consider also some expenses in public transport. At least being international student you get into some club and discos for free…
Cheers

Congratulations, I imagine how excited you are! Unfortunately I cannot tell you any about Visa procedures, I didn’t need the visa, I made the residence permit once I got here. I guess the Visa procedures will depend on the country where you are from.
See you!
